Stanford University
Dear Stanford community,

We’re pleased to share with you that Stanford will be adding a second floating holiday for staff employees in 2022. This is an additional paid day off for employees to use at their discretion.

The university holiday schedule for 2022 is now posted on the Cardinal at Work website. With the addition of the second floating holiday, Stanford will now provide 12 paid holidays for staff employees each year instead of 11. In addition, the university will continue to provide three days of personal time off (PTO) each year.

In revising our holiday schedule to include one more floating holiday, a key priority was providing staff employees the latitude to take time off for observances that are most meaningful to them. We acknowledge and honor the fact that members of our community have a diverse array of cultural, religious, and personal commitments, which are deeply important to each individual.

While we are not adding any specific federal or state holidays as designated university holidays, the additional floating holiday will allow staff the opportunity to take a holiday not recognized as a paid holiday by Stanford, such as Veterans Day, Indigenous Peoples’ Day/Columbus Day, Cesar Chavez Day and the newly recognized Juneteenth holiday. Floating holidays may also be used for religious observances, days of cultural significance, community service, reflection, learning, or days of personal importance, such as those involving family celebrations.

Within the university, we also will continue marking occasions of significance and seeking new opportunities to highlight them for our community. Stanford offers rich on-campus and virtual programming in support of many of these observances, and we will be working to promote the opportunities for our community to learn about and celebrate these important dates.

As a reminder for staff and those who manage staff, floating holidays must be used each year by December 31. Employees must obtain supervisory approval for time off, as they do for vacation or personal time off. More information is available on the Cardinal at Work website.

Thank you, as ever, for your many contributions to Stanford. Elizabeth Zacharias   Elizabeth Zacharias

December 10, 2020 - Katy McCormack

Dear CCTO Team!

I am reaching out to all of you to share a greeting for the end of 2020, pre-winter “closure” and in a holiday season.

First, I would like to recognize all of you for your contributions this year during this very tricky time. Our patients have struggled and we have all struggled, but we have supported our patients and each other. We will be stronger because of this experience!

Second, I would like to reflect on the coming year of endless possibilities! I can think of many and I am sure you can, too. Vaccine is a big one that comes to mind… being able to be together… traveling… and many more…

Third, I would like to recognize those of who are continuing to work at some level over the winter closure to continue care for our research subjects and maintain research continuity. I am extremely grateful for your work.

And last, but certainly not least, I wish all of you a safe and restful winter closure period, and a happy holidays to those of you who celebrate a holiday during this time. I look forward to “seeing” all of you in 2021!

Best,

Elizabeth Anderson
