Jabber Softphone Modernized Look Coming Soon

June 18, 2020 - SCI Communications

Update your version after June 22

On June 22, University IT will update Jabber to the new 12.8.2 version. This release provides an enhanced look and feel for your Jabber Softphone, which allows you to use your computer as your Stanford telephone, including placing, receiving, and forwarding calls.

The contemporary look provides a more modern experience. In addition to using less bandwidth to provide the same video quality, the new release also allows you to:

Assign ringtones for each line, including a silent ringtone

Prioritize newly registered audio devices

All of the features you rely on such as contact list, calling, and voicemail will still be available.

 What you need to do

You’ll find the transition to the new version seamless and new interface more intuitive. After June 22, you will need to log out and log back into Jabber to view updates. For PC users, you will be presented with an option to update, and you will want to select Install the update.

After logging back in, Mac users will need to manually Check for Updates under the Jabber menu tab, and follow the instructions to complete the upgrade.
